Needs Analysis

Understanding your learners and their needs is a key to any successful e-training project. Many will not have experienced e-training and will be apprehensive. Conducting a needs analysis will give your training group information essential for planning and implementing an e-training strategy. A side benefit is that it is a first step in involving your learners in the process.

Basic needs analysis information includes:

Existing knowledge and skills
Level of need for particular types of training
Learning preferences
Level of computer proficiency
Experience, if any, in e-training / e-learning
Access to networked computers at work; at home
Time available for learning
Preferred time of day / week for learning
Other relevant information specific to your organization

Needs analysis methodologies that can be used include a self-reporting survey (paper and / or web-based), interviews and focus groups, depending upon your requirements.
